Matt was raised in rural Richland County, Illinois. Following high school, he attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where he completed degrees focused in Biological Science and Chemistry. In January of 2013, he moved back to Olney, IL and began working for Franklin Well Services, an independent oil and gas service company. Within a few months, he obtained his commercial driver’s license and began operating various frac, acid, and cement pumping equipment. After one year in the field, Matt was presented an opportunity to showcase the analytical and molecular science skills he had learned at the university via an accelerated technical proficiency program and was eventually promoted to the position of Technical Sales Engineer. Matt continued in this position for 5 years, during which time he helped several Illinois Basin producers plan a large number of new well completions, organized wellsite operations and logistics, as well as managed a fully functional cement, acid, and frac fluids laboratory. In this role, he was responsible for identifying, qualifying, and implementing new products for the various service disciplines. Due to these additional responsibilities and his growing understanding of new technologies, Matt successfully designed many cementing and stimulation treatments for Oil and Gas production companies in Illinois, Indiana, and Western Kentucky. During his tenure, Matt managed over 50 service accounts totaling more than $75 MM in net sales.
In March of 2019, Matt made the transition from the service discipline to oil and gas production, joining the team at Herman L. Loeb LLC as the Engineering and Technical Specialist. In this role, he oversaw general regulatory compliance for field operations, provided support for various permitting requirements, and conducted incident reviews and job safety analyses. He provided support to the engineering, geology, production and management staff on well maintenance records and well bore diagrams, asset acquisition and divestment studies, enhance recovery projects, implementation of production operational standards, and data acquisition. He also served as the subject matter expert for well stimulations, completions, reservoir management, compliance & risk management. In early 2024 Matt further expanded his responsibilities for the company when he was promoted to the position of Engineering & Compliance Manager. In this newly developed role, he will lead well completion and stimulation designs, drive environmental and regulatory compliance activities, as well as engage in industry influence and educational outreach.
In his personal time, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and 4 children, coaching his two son’s wrestling team, and participating in weekly pool leagues and local tournaments.
